Mideast ‘Peace Partners’ Finally Taking Off Their Gloves
JERUSALEM — Amazingly, just when all four parties — the U.S., its allies in the Arab world, the Palestinian Authority, and Israel — seemed to have hit rock bottom in terms of the prospects of moving the region away from conflict and towards peace, all of a sudden everything seems to be pointing in the [...]
Militarist Dad PROUD of his Natural Born Killer, it fulfils his "Israeliness"
WRITTEN BY MARY RIZZO
You really have to hand it to the Israelis, especially those who came from some other place first. In an article that romanticizes militarism, they see their participation in war as a fulfillment of their very essence of being. If the same article were written from a “Jihadi”, I wonder what the reaction might be. At any rate, not to tilt the scales of fantasy too far, I would like to simply address the article that Jewish immigrant to “Israel” has written to the Washington Post, and thank Nancy of www.umkahlil.blogspot.com for having brought it to my attention.
Mustafa Barghouti – Palestine´s Guernica and the Myths of Israeli Victimhood
Mustafa Barghouti Secretary General of the Palestinian National Initiative
The Israeli campaign of ‘death from above’ began around 11 am, on Saturday morning, the 27th of December, and stretched straight through the night into this morning. The massacre continues Sunday as I write these words.
The bloodiest single day in Palestine since the War of 1967 is far from over following on Israel’s promised that this is ‘only the beginning’ of their campaign of state terror. At least 290 people have been murdered thus far, but the body count continues to rise at a dramatic pace as more mutilated bodies are pulled from the rubble, previous victims succumb to their wounds and new casualties are created by the minute.
Gaza: It’s Terrorism, it’s Slaughter. Crime can be reported
In the days of the atrocious massacre in Gaza, horror inevitably focuses on the images and the voices of the victims. They are tiny fragments that don’t help complete the picture of the tragedy yet. It’s hard to understand and reflect while such a disaster is underway. Yet, we are required to, in order to reconstruct the facts and the context.
After years of occupation, on September 11th 2005 the Israeli army lowered its flag in Gaza, not before having completed the swift evacuation of the Jewish settlements from the Strip, which was proving to be too a high cost to afford. Military convoys left. It was Ariel Sharon’s unilateral disengagement: there was no political recognition that would regard the Palestinians as peers. The Israelis were saying good-bye, nonetheless, they weren’t actually leaving. The sea and the sky remained totally under Israeli control. And what a control was it!
ACTION ALERT- Urgent call for Action on upgrade of the EU- Israel Association Agreement
*** KINDLY REPRINT AND SPREAD WIDELY ***
The recent postponement of the vote in the European Parliament on the extension of existing EU programmes with Israel has been attributed to the great mass of letters received by MEPs, MPs and Ministers, showing the growing influence of civil society on attitudes towards Israel.
We now need you to write again about an even more crucial and urgent issue relating to the upgrading of EU relations with Israel.
Remi Kanazi – The Failed Logic of Supporting the Troops
In the United States, a growing number of leftists are voicing their opposition to the Israeli occupation. They condemn the demolition of homes, the jailing of Palestinians without charge, and the confiscation of Palestinian land for settlements. They don’t support the Israeli troops or their mission, nor do they give a free pass to those who are just “doing what they are told.”
Nonetheless, many of these same individuals support the US troops in Iraq. Dangerously, most Americans put forth the notion that the troops’ intrinsic heroism provides them with the impunity to destroy any bogeymen who stand in their way, cultivating a code of silence that strongly discourages dissent. It is under this premise that we support our “brave” and “noble” soldiers: we know their stories well, they miss their families, they are “just like us,” and we should respect their service.
