The United States believes that India’s air force began preliminary preparations for a possible attack against Pakistan in the immediate aftermath of the recent massacre in Mumbai, CNN has learned.
One U.S. official said India’s air force “went on alert” following the attacks in Mumbai.

Gordon Brown, the British prime minister, has named a Pakistan-based group as responsible for the Mumbai attacks during a meeting with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.
The two leaders met at Singh’s residence in New Delhi on Sunday amid continued tensions between India and Pakistan over last month’s attacks that claimed more than 170 lives in India’s financial capital.
FBI team detained at Mumbai airport
Mumbai: A seven-member FBI team was detained at the Chhatrapati Shivaji airport due to some “miscommunication” between officials as it arrived to probe Wednesday’s terror strike but was allowed entry after it provided a list of forensic equipment it was carrying.
Authorities at the airport came in for a surprise when a special plane carrying the FBI team and special forensic equipment landed in the city, official sources said.

WASHINGTON: United States intelligence agencies had warned India “twice” about a potential maritime attack on Mumbai at least a month before audacious terror strikes that has left about 200 people dead and scores injured, media reports said.
“The United States warned the Indian government about a potential maritime attack against Mumbai at least a month before last week’s massacre in the country’s financial capital,” the CNN quoted a US counter-terrorism official as saying.
